Brief on Methods

In our practical activities, we use a wide arsenal of modern methods for conducting research and consulting business. The following are the main ones.

The formation of expert assessments and conclusions about the current state is carried out in two steps:

  • the first step is the formation of actual hypotheses about the surveyed area on the basis of preliminary information;
  • the second step is to check the hypotheses formulated earlier, which are either accepted or rejected on the basis of the obtained data and the results of the analysis.

CBM is the result of component business modeling (Component Business Modeling, CBM, CBM analysis) - a technique used to represent the company's activities in the form of a set of separate business components, distributed according to business competencies and levels of management (responsibility), for analysis and identification opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Each component of the model should answer 5 important questions (see below).

The method of brainstorming (brainstorming, brainstorming, English brainstorming) is an operative method of solving the problem on the basis of stimulating creative activity, in which participants in the discussion are offered to express as many options as possible, including the most fantastic ones.
Then, out of the total number of ideas put forth, the most successful ones are selected, which can be used in practice.

The method of evaluating a project, company or asset, using the principle of time value of money.
All planned future cash flows are discounted (decreasing) by the amount of the coefficient reflecting the cost of the capital involved, in order to assess their value at the moment.
The sum of all cash flows, both incoming and outgoing, is the net present value of the object (project, company or asset).
The principle of the time value of money says that it is better to get money now than later. Because they will become cheaper.

The method of paired comparisons is based on a pairwise comparison of alternative objects by the expert to determine the most preferable.
Matrices of paired comparisons are compiled in which all objects are written in boundary lines and columns in the same order.
Each expert should place his preference on a pre-determined criterion at the intersection of the row and column connecting the two alternative objects.
There are a number of algorithms that implement the method of paired comparisons: they differ in the number of expert judgments used (individual and collective estimates), in comparison scales for alternatives, etc.
